“Currie directed with the sort of rhythmic clarity you might expect,
cueing the players with precision”

Colin’s first forays on to the conducting podium began with conducting his own ensemble the Colin Currie Group in larger-scale chamber repertoire. Since then, he has gone on to conduct ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Asko/Schönberg, Britten Sinfonia, and between 2020-2023 he was conductor and Artistic Curator of the Grafenegg Academy. Future plans include conducting and play/directing debuts with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Belgian National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony and a return project with Scottish Chamber Orchestra.  Colin’s strength as a conductor comes from his charisma as a soloist, and the perfect sense of rhythm developed over his career as a percussionist at the highest level. Focusing on music by composers such as John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Bryce Dessner, Helen Grime, Mark-Anthony Turnage and Julia Wolfe, alongside the Steve Reich repertoire for which he is known, he has a keen instinct for making music at its most vibrant and exciting.
