Debut at the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Hall

On November 16th, Colin Currie makes his debut at the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Hall in the Czech Republic. Alongside the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, Colin will be performing under the baton of German conductor, Andreas Sebastian Weiser. The program includes works by American composers Steve Reich, Andy Akiho, and Andrew Norman. Commencing the program will be Akiho’s Percussion Concerto which was specifically written for Colin. The work was first performed as the culmination of Colin's Artist in Residence tenure with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, in October 2019. His performance in the Czech Republic marks the European premiere of this work. Andy Akiho is a key figure in Colin’s new repertoire, who also wrote a world premiere for Colin and the JACK Quartet entitled Aluminous (also in 2019). The Colin Currie Group frequently performs his composition Pillar IV, which was also part of a film recorded during the 2020 lockdown, which can be viewed here.

Next on the program is Steve Reich’s Music for Ensemble and Orchestra, which premiered in 2018, and is said to have been a sequel to Reich’s 2016 chamber piece Runner, which Currie recently performed with the Colin Currie Group during their European tour. The concert concludes with a performance of the orchestral work Sustain by Andrew Norman. This work was commissioned and premiered by the LAPhil in 2018 at the opening concerts of their 100th Anniversary year at the Walt Disney Concert Hall under the direction of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel.
